WRITING CONTEST 2004

MMKODA's Second Annual Writing Contest

Grab a piece of paper and a pen!
Scribble a poem or short story of inspiration on the paper.
Reveal your inspiration for the world to see.

Middle School $40
Elementary School $30
Preschoolers $20

Date Due: April 17, 2004
(must be postmarked on or before date due)

Poems and short stories need to reflect your experience as a hearing child of deaf parents.   Preschoolers, Kindergarteners and First Graders can submit drawings (dictated words accepted) that would reflect their experience as a hearing child of deaf parents.   Participants must be residents of Maryland and in the neighboring metropolitans of Maryland (District Columbia and Northern Virginia). Poems and short stories of up to 500 words will be accepted.  

Poems and short stories sent to MMKODA will not be returned.   MMKODA reserves the right to post the writings in its' homepage.   Due to the age of contestants on website, MMKODA will reveal the first name and age of the contestants.   Poem Contest Page will be added to MMKODA website on or after April 25, 2004.

Winners will be notified via email on the day of contest and the prizes will be given at Mother Father Deaf Day Picnic taking place on Sunday, April 25, 2004.   Writings will be displayed at the picnic.   Presence of winners and contestants is encouraged at the picnic.   If the winner is unable to attend the picnic, please contact Jeanine Kamdar at KODApride@aol.com.

First admission of poem or short story is at no charge.   Additional poems and short stories entering the contest are $2 each.   There will be three CODA judges assigned to the contest.   Names of judges will be revealed to the public after the contest.
