*The contest is open to all KODAs living in the Maryland-Virginia-DC area. KODAs are to submit either poems or short stories of up to 500 words. Poems and short stories need to reflect your experience as a hearing child of deaf parents. Preschoolers, Kindergarteners and First Graders can submit drawings (dictated words accepted) that would reflect their experience as a hearing child of deaf parents. Participants must be residents of Maryland and in the neighboring metropolitans of Maryland (District Columbia and Northern Virginia). Poems and short stories sent to MMKODA will not be returned.
Winners will be announced at Mother Father Deaf Day Picnic, at High Point Farm in Clarksburg, Maryland. The prizes will be awarded at the picnic. Writings will be displayed at the picnic prior to judging. Presences of contestants are encouraged at the picnic. If the constestant is unable to attend the picnic, please contact Jeanine Kamdar.
Similar voting procedure from last year will be used; three judges, all impartial from MMKODA organization, will be chosen to vote on the best writing of each age group. All writings will have author's name concealed until after judges' voting. Likewise, names of judges will be revealed, after judging, at the picnic.
First admission of poem or short story is at no charge. Additional poems and short stories entering the contest are $2 each.
