Medical Schools In The US

Today when looking at those students who have applied to attend medical school the admissions board will be looking at a number of different factors.

  1. They will be evaluating the grades you obtained whilst at college.
  2. They will look to see what extra-curricular activities you have taken part in and any volunteer work you may have been involved in.
  3. They will be looking at you as a person and what kind of character you are.
  4. They will also look at your MCAT results which a student is required to take and pass if they wish to attend any medical school in the US or Canada today. These tests look to see what knowledge of basic science that a person has. They also tell them what abilities you have in relation to reading and writing and do you have the skills for solving problems.

As there are over 125 medical schools in the US today finding the right one for you can prove to be very difficult. Therefore there are a number of questions that you should be asking yourself before you make your final choices. All of which are extremely important as it is vital to remember that the you need to spend 4 years at the university before you then move on to carry out your residency training.

Often I am asked how much a medical school admissions officer will emphasize a student’s grades in organic chemistry when assessing a candidate for admission. While this class is very important to admissions, it may not be so for the most obvious reasons.
